A woman who was texting and speeding when she caused a fatal accident on the 405 freeway near Westministerwas sentenced to six years in prison. The judge was concerned about her choices and the lack of remorse shown concerning the death of a former high school softball star.
The victim was in start and stop traffic when she was rear-ended by the driver who had been texting for several minutes prior to the crash, and was allegedly traveling in excess of 80 miles per hour. The Judge noted her behavior and consistent cell phone use while driving, and likened it to driving under the influence. The driver may also face a civil wrongful death lawsuit as a result of the Court’s findings.
