Two wrong way fatal accidents in Orange County in a single night left police searching for answers, and injured victims fighting for their lives. The first accident occurred just after 2:00 a.m. as a 2016 Black Honda Civic was driving southbound in the northbound lane in the 700 block of Lemon Street in Fullerton. The Civic collided with a northbound Lincoln Aviator, severely injuring several in the Civic who were rushed to a local trauma center. A passenger in the Civic transported to a separate trauma center has since passed away. Both drivers in the accident were driving under the influence of alcohol, and the accident continues to be under investigation by the Fullerton Police.
This accident came on the heels of a separate fatal accident on the I-5 near San Juan Capistrano. The California Highway Patrol received a call that a white BMW was driving southbound on the northbound 405 or San Diego freeway near Sand Canyon Avenue. The white BMW transitioned onto the I-5 where it became involved in an accident in the car pool lane at high speed. The BMW crashed head-on into a Toyota Camry. The driver of the BMW was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver and a passenger in the Camry were transported to a hospital with injuries, but both are thankfully expected to survive.
