The proposed light rail line connecting the Orange County cities of Santa Ana and Garden Grove is expected to significantly reduce freeway traffic between these cities. The Orange County Transportation Authority along with money from federal grants, is expected to spend almost $300 million on the light rail line which will be called OC Street Car. The OC Street Car is expected to travel a four mile route through these cities in Orange County and will stimulate the economy for local businesses and jobs. Additionally, it is expected to take some local commuters off the roads which will help to alleviate local area traffic. The project is anticipated to begin in 2017, and will take a few years to be completed. Once completed, the rail line is expected to run approximately 6,000 passengers per day, with fares ranging from $2-$5 per ride.
