The Irvine Police Department has put out a recent bulletin that they will strictly enforce the California “seat-belt” law during the summer months beginning in May, as part of the nationwide “Click It or Ticket” campaign. The nationwide campaign is an effort to emphasize the dangers of getting into an accident without having a safety-belt on. Recent statistics from Federal Agencies indicate that in 2013 in California over 500 people died as a result of not wearing their seat-belts. A simple decision to wear a safety-belt could mean the difference between life and death. In enforcing these laws, the Irvine police department will issue citations to drivers that are not in compliance with the state law. A citation will cost $161 in California for drivers over the age of 16. If a child under the age of 16 is not in compliance with the law, the violation will cost $490 for the parent. At the Law Firm of Rivers Morrell we encourage all drivers to practice safe driving habits and to be safe on the roads!
