Gov. Brown Signs Hit and Run Driver Alert Law
Yesterday, Governor Jerry Brown signed the Hit and Run Driver Yellow Alert bill into law. The bill is designed to help identify and capture hit and run drivers in serious injury and fatal accidents. Hit and run drivers are responsible for multiple accidents and injuries each day throughout California, and here in Orange County the numbers are staggering.
The alerts will display like Amber alerts but highly localized, and will contain information about the car, license number and driver description if available. They will display on cell phones and highway signs in the immediate vicinity of the hit and run accident, and you are asked to be vigilant and to assist with the identification and capture of hit and run drivers.
The new law will take effect on January 1, 2016 and we welcome this addition to California law. I have personally managed hit and run accident cases for more than 40 years, and it never ceases to amaze me how one person can drive off after injuring another, especially a pedestrian.
