A 59 year old doctor was travelling eastbound on Route 74, often referred to as the Ortega Highway near Lake Elsinore, when his SUV was struck in a fatal head on collision with a Chevy Camaro who evidently crossed the center line while attempting to pass another vehicle. The incident happened near a popular establishment on a twisting narrow 2-lane section of road clearly marked with a double yellow line down the middle. Witnesses told CHP the Camaro was attempting to pass another vehicle and pulled into the path of the doctor’s SUV.
The driver and a passenger in the Camaro suffered serious injuries including a punctured lung and broken legs and an arm for the driver, and a fractured lower back for the passenger. The incident continues to be under CHP investigation, and witnesses are requested to contact the CHP Temecula Office 951-506-2000.
