Benjamin Golden Fails to Appear, Faces Warrant and $20,000 Bail
The former Taco Bell executive Benjamin Golden, facing 4 charges including assault and battery related to the October 30 beating of an Uber driver, failed to appear in Superior Court to answer charges Yesterday. The arraignment on this case was scheduled for 8:30 am yesterday, November 12 in the Superior Court of California, Orange County, Case number 15WM14655.
Arraignment is a Court procedure where formal charges are read into the record, and the defendant enters a plea of “guilty”, “not guilty” or “no contest.” At 8:30, there was a request to move the hearing to 1:30 pm. The prosecutor’s office (Victim’s Assistance), asked the former Uber driver, Edward Caban, to be present. Mr. Caban responded and appeared as requested.
When the case was called later that afternoon, defendant Golden was not present. The judge was very disappointed in his failure to appear, and set bail in the amount of $20,000. Pleas of “Not Guilty” were entered on Mr. Golden’s behalf on each of the 4 counts.
A Pre Trial hearing has been set for Jan 14, 2016.
