Tragedy struck Oklahoma State University’s Homecoming Parade as a suspected drunk driver drove into a crowded intersection killing four, and injuring many others. The suspected drunk driver had plowed through a police barricade before striking people in the parade at a high rate of speed. Among the deceased include an international student at the university, and a two year old child. Dozens of others were left in severe critical condition with major injuries as a result of the fatal pedestrian accident.
Vehicle versus pedestrian accidents often result in very major injuries (and even death) for pedestrians. Accordingly, many traffic laws are designed to strongly favor pedestrians in right of way contests. Accordingly, in these type of vehicle versus pedestrian accidents, baring some absolute negligence on the part of the pedestrian, vehicles are often found at fault for these types of accidents. Especially in situations like the case above, where the driver of the vehicle is found to be under the influence and driving.
