5 people were injured in an HOV lane crash at the intersection of I-5 and I-405 in Irvine on Sunday evening. The crash involved two pickup trucks, and both trucks suffered major damage. 2 of the victims were trapped in their truck for 30 minutes following the accident. Firefighters on the scene had to cut the top off of the pickup truck to get to the injured victims inside. The driver and his wife were taken to Mission Hospital in Mission Viejo with serious injuries.
The other pickup truck contained a family of 5, 3 of whom were transported to Hoag Hospital in Irvine with seemingly minor injuries.
