4 motorcyclists lost their lives in a Santiago Canyon crash yesterday. The California Highway Patrol is investigating the fatal accident between 2 motorcycles on Santiago Canyon Road just south of Hicks Haul Road around 4:30 PM yesterday. Paramedics found two women and two men had lost their lives when they arrived at the scene.
CHP reports from the scene believe the motorcycle driving north attempted to pass another vehicle when it struck the southbound motorcycle head-on. Each motorcycle had a male and female passenger.
This is a tragic accident which has resulted in at least two and perhaps 3 cases of wrongful death under California law. When a person loses their life in an accident due to the negligence of another it is known legally as a “wrongful death” under California law. The families of the two motorcyclists on the southbound bike as well as the passenger on the northbound bike may have the basis for a wrongful death action.
4 motorcyclists lost their lives in a Santiago Canyon crash yesterday and no one and nothing can replace the loss of a beloved family member. When we lose a family member in a sudden fatal accident due to someone else’s negligence California civil law provides the victim’s families with the ability to recover financial damages. These damages are not compensation for a life. They are intended to help with many of the resulting consequences including, but not limited to:
- The loss of the time and memories we would have shared
- The loss of time with a spouse (loss of consortium)
- The loss of time with a parent or child
- Lost income of a breadwinner or provider
- Final expenses
